Scientific research involves a systematic process that focuses on being objective and gathering a multitude of information for analysis so that the researcher can come to a conclusion. This process is used in all research and evaluation projects, regardless of the research method scientific method of inquiry, evaluation research, or action research. The process focuses on testing hunches or ideas in a park and recreation setting through a systematic process. In this process, the study is documented in such a way that another individual can conduct the same study again. This is referred to as replicating the study. Any research done without documenting the study so that others can review the process and results is not an investigation using the scientific research process.
Research design refers to the overall strategy utilized to carry out research  that defines a succinct and logical plan to tackle established research question s through the collection, interpretation, analysis, and discussion of data. The methodologies and methods incorporated in the design of a research study will depend on the standpoint of the researcher over their beliefs in the nature of knowledge see epistemology and reality see ontology , often shaped by the disciplinary areas the researcher belongs to. The design of a study defines the study type descriptive, correlational, semi-experimental, experimental, review, meta-analytic and sub-type e. There are many ways to classify research designs. Nonetheless, the list below offers a number of useful distinctions between possible research designs. A research design is an arrangement of conditions or collection. Sometimes a distinction is made between "fixed" and "flexible" designs.

The presentations defined the field of implementation science, introduced implementation theories and outcome models, methods used, and addressed the challenges in this field of study, lessons learned, and recommendations for other researchers who are looking carry out their policy studies. Paul Estabrooks provided a brief overview of implementation science theories and models, research designs, and outcome assessment. Keshia Pollack discussed the use of multiple and mixed-methods for implementation science, highlighting the application of these methods for physical activity research. NSTA encourages ALL stakeholders in science education, including K—16 teachers of science and administrators, informal science educators, and school board members to recognize the importance of educational research, promote more research in schools, and participate in research when possible. NSTA considers a broad range of activities to be within the scope of research, including research conducted by teachers that can lead to immediate classroom changes as well as research that contributes to a larger body of knowledge such as long-term or large-scale studies.
